Once again, the runway has translated into the home. Blue first began trending on the runways during the Spring 2015 shows. I named the trend “Blue for You” in my Spring 2015 trend report.
Recently, I came across the Spring 2015 Furniture Report from High Point Market. For those who have never heard of High Point Market, it is one of the major markets that home buyers attend each year. High Point Market has a major influence in the furniture industry. Going back to the report, I definitely was not expecting to see the blue trend, but lo’ and behold, it is there. Lori Gilder of LoriGilder.com calls it “The Moody Blues.” Gilder states indigo blue as the hue making its appearance in showrooms such as those of Ralph Lauren Home, Bruce Andrews, Kravet, and Mitchell Black. I actually think the color is quite beautiful. It brings a calming, introspective, almost nostalgic feel to the rooms and pieces shown below. I definitely agree with Gilder that this indigo blue appeals to both the masculine and feminine. As a furniture buyer by profession, I can’t wait to see how this spills over into store lineups. Indigo blue is a neutral, sophisticated color that can work well with anything, no matter if it’s in apparel or the home.
